Just metres short of a mountain, Castle Hill is the giant pink granite monolith that stands proud in the centre of Townsville - a perfect place for visitors to orientate themselves.
As well as offering vehicle access, Castle Hill provides a number of popular walking tracks, which are frequented by more than 2,500 locals a day! The 360-degree views of Townsville at the top are well worth the journey. Be sure to have a camera on hand, particularly for sunrise or sunset as these are photo opportunities which shouldn't be missed.

With impressive exhibits the aquarium offers an ever changing, always fascinating experience, showcasing rare and extraordinary features of the Great Barrier Reef.

The town has a rich military history, with currently the largest defense base in Australia. Learn about Townsville's strategic place in WWII, visit the museums and barracks, and enjoy fantastic lookouts over Northern Australia's biggest city.

Billabong Sanctuary offers Australia’s Best Interactive Wildlife Experience! Located just 20 minutes south of Townsville on the Bruce Highway, they feature native animals in natural habitats of eucalypt forest, rainforest and wetlands.

Each Sunday on Flinders Street, producers of all sorts come by to sell their goods. Juicy local fruit, jewelry, art, woodworks, cakes, and gifts line the stalls. On from 8:30am to 1pm.

Take a leisurely stroll along Townsville's main strip, The Strand. On a bright sunny day, it's the best place to take the kids for a scoop of gelato. Take a picnic, visit local markets, swim in a lagoon, and soak in the views.

World Heritage listed Magnetic Island is only a 25 minute passenger ferry ride away. Discover the rare beauty of this tropical paradise. Explore the hinterland on numerous nature walks, swim and sunbake at any of the numerous untouched bays or hire a jetski and circumnavigate the island. Dive, snorkel, dine, cruise, the choice is yours.

Take a half hour to see the 20 murals that are hidden in the lanes and alleyways of Townsville. The city has commissioned pieces from famous artists around Australia and the world. Some of the art covers entire walls of buildings - metres and metres high!
